The exhibition dedicated to Alfons Mucha is unique in its kind as it includes the most comprehensive collection of posters, decorative panels, prints and drawings of the artist, the undisputed representative of Art Nouveau. The masterpieces come from the private collection of Ivan Lendl and are currently at the Richard Fuxa Foundation. The exhibition is structured into three main sections, arranged chronologically, in turn divided into subsections. The exhibition itinerary presents the art of Alphonse Mucha from different perspective and points of view, considering the main themes and interests of his oeuvre. It highlights Mucha as father of the graphics, as philosopher and visionary artist. Valuable masterpieces from the collection of the Foundation, as well as from private collections, are on display to show the work and the creative genius of the artist: posters, books, drawings, sculptures, oils and watercolors, as well as photographs, jewelry and decorative works, allow to trace a picture of the versatility and eclecticism of his personality. Alfons Mucha’s extensive oeuvre displayed marked contradictions, a consequence of his interest in two distinct themes: allegories of the times of day and the seasons, and historical events. On one hand Mucha was attracted to the cyclical rhythm of nature and the stages of human life, and on the other he worked on a wide variety of historical scenes based on the academic painting of the time, which awoke in him a desire to discover the significance of humankind and the role of individual nations. He worked on the first theme primarily in coloured lithographs, and on the second initially in illustrations and later in large paintings in egg tempera.
