As a child, Danh Vo fled Vietnam with his family and, taken aboard a Danish freighter, began a new life in Copenhagen. Since then, the artist began wondering about the concept of borders in history and contemporary society. Values, differences, identities and points of reference are elements correlated in his work, greatly influenced by his life. His personal history thus takes its place in collective history.
Go Mo Ni Ma Da presents Danh Vo’s recent works, including a series of works about the missionary martyr of the Vietnam War, Théophane Vénard; a series of works about Robert S. McNamara, President Kennedy’s Secretary of Defence during the Vietnam; the three chandeliers of the salon of the Hôtel Majestic where the Paris Peace Accords were signed, ending the war between the United States and Vietnam; and a scale reproduction of fragments of the Statue of Liberty, We The People, the artist’s flagship work.
