This publication traces the development of the Museum of Non-Objective Painting, the precusor of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and illuminates the vision of its founders: curator and director Hilla Rebay and patron Salomon R. Guggenheim. Drawing on a wealth of archival materials, many newly catalagued, it focuses in depth on Rebay´s ambitious program of permanent collection and temporary exhibitions and the museum´s complex architectural history prior to the opening of its Frank Lloyd Wright building in 1959.
