Prodigiouslu gifted and tragically short-lived, Hart Crane was the American Peer of Shelley, Rimbaud, and Lorca. He was born in Ohion in July 21, 1899 and died at sea on April 27, 1932, an apparent suicide. Totally devoted to his art, Crane struggled agaisnt warring parents, poverty, and discrimination as a homosexual. Yet despite critical misunderstanding and neglect,in his own time ans in ours, Crane achieved a superb poetic style, idiosyncratic yet central to American tradition.
