This book argues that Chinese culture is a "socio-logical" system in the sense that its institutional and ideological elements are best comprehended with reference to social life considered as a whole. Here the "practical logic" which links Chinese individuals, families, communities and the state is explored in a wide range of contexts -but especially in ritual and myth.
