Wajiro Kon - Perspective

This book introduces the achievements of Wajiro KON (1888-1973) as a pioneer of "Kogengaku (Research Modernology)." After the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923, "Kogengaku" started from recording the reconstruction of Tokyo.In the Showa era, the city environment of Tokyo and the lifestyles of people changed drastically and KON captured that change in detail. Though his genre of activity covered a broad range from research of private houses, residential design, interior design to dressmaking which contributed to girls education in the postwar period, there was always tender love to human beings and an eye for pursuing "life art."With an abundance of materials including his sketches of field works, the book question the meaning of "design.".
