Art and Civil War. Cuadernos Postal - inglés

Art and politics come together in one of the most complex and elusive binomials in the domain of History of Art. In the Spanish case, and particularly with regard to the Civil War, the debate is linked with the European artistic, political and intellectual milieu of the time. In those years, the languages of late Cubism, abstract, realist and Surrealist art coexisted with the emergence, from the early 1930s onwards, of the social realism that was both championed and very tightly controlled by the propaganda apparatuses of newly-established European governments: the Popular Front in France, the Stalinist regime in Russia, National Socialism in Germany, and fascism in Italy.
